During the recent holidays, twelve young cricketers ventured south to gain some valuable pre-season cricket. The plan was to play three days of cricket in Hawkes Bay and one in Hamilton on the way home and, dodging dodgy weather, the plan came off.
Led by Jack McCulloch (Year 10, Greenbank) the team won three of their four games on a variety of artificial pitches that allowed the boys to get into good habits in the season. The innings of the tour was Millar Ormsby’s (Year 10, Greenbank) 66 against Horowhenua-Kapiti. Jack McCulloch reached 40+ on three occasions. There were good innings from Daniel Bricklebank (Year 10, Peart), Levi Atkinson (Year 10, Major) and Alex Sonn (Year 10, Major).
The best bowling spell was Tanvir Dhanoa’s (Year 9, Averill) 5/9 against Wellington College with Ian Mitchelson (Year 10, Marsden) and James Cunningham (Year 10, Greenbank) bowling some useful spells. Jono Phillips (Year 10, Major) was a fine steward behind the stumps.
May thanks to Gareth McCulloch for his wonderful managerial skills, Shelley Cunningham for her scoring assistance and Myrinthia for her photographic excellence.
