Our very own Coco Fougere (Year 11, Marion Bruce) has produced an outstanding performance at the prestigious Horse of the Year 2025 competition held at the Tōmoana Showgrounds in Hawkes Bay. Riding her talented horse, Boss, Coco displayed skill, determination, and poise throughout the event, achieving remarkable results on the national stage.
Coco and Boss started their campaign strong with a clear round in their 1.15m class on the first day. This stellar performance earned them a well-deserved qualification for the 1.15m championship, setting the tone for an exciting competition ahead.
Next up was the Junior Rider of the Year qualifier - given her ranking in the top 20 junior riders in New Zealand, Coco only needed to complete the round without elimination to secure her spot in the Junior Rider of the Year final the following day. With characteristic focus and determination, she achieved exactly that, so Saturday saw Coco stepping into the grand stage of the Premier Ring for the Junior Rider of the Year final. It was her first time competing in such a high-profile setting, but she rose to the occasion and against a competitive field of accomplished junior riders, Coco delivered a brilliant performance, finishing in 3rd place!
This achievement is particularly remarkable as it is Coco’s first year competing in this division. To secure a podium finish in such a prestigious competition, against some of the best young riders in the country, is an extraordinary feat.
Congratulations, Coco! Your dedication and talent are truly inspiring. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you and Boss!
