Auckland Secondary Schools Cross Country Championship

The Auckland Secondary Schools Cross Country Championship was held on Wednesday 4 June in extreme weather with torrential rain, strong winds and a boggy, muddy course (true old fashioned running conditions). The 17 runners braved these conditions to put in some great performances on the day:

Junior Boys 4km

115 runners contested this event and our lone runner Jake Chapman (Year 9, School) strongly worked through the field after a conservative start to finish a creditable 37th in a time of 16.55. 

Intermediate Boys 5km

There were 130 starters in this race with King’s runners Charlie Barron (Year 11, Marsden) 19th in 19.54, Thomas Rhodes (Year 11, Greenbank) 23rd in 20.14,  Luca Henderson (Year 11, Major) 70th in 22.23, Aarav Pandey (Year 11, Peart) 82nd in 23.30 and Marshal Hoffman (Year 10, Parnell) 89th in 23.58. Our 3-person team finished 6th overall.

Senior Girls 4km

The team was made up of senior hockey players with Saffron Moaveni (Year 12, Marion Bruce) 18th in 18.14, Alexis Tree (Year 11, Taylor) 19th in 18.15, Phoebe Driscoll (Year 13, Middlemore) 21st in 18.33, Zoe Driscoll (Year 12, Middlemore) 24th in 18.59, Phoebe Wood (Year 12, Marion Bruce) 36th in 20.44, Maddie Paterson (Year 13, Middlemore) 50th in 23.10, Hermione Holdsworth (Year 13, Middlemore) 58th in 24,31. 

In the 3-person teams race the team finished 4th and in the 6-person teams race placed 3rd! 

Senior Boys 6km

The highlight of the meeting was Redd Scampion (Year 13, Major) finishing 2nd in a time of 21.20 behind the National Champion. Redd was followed by Sam Rickerby (Year 12, Peart) in 3rd in 21.4. Quinn Moss (Year 13, Parnell) placed 14th in 23.19 and Quinn Winwood (Year 12, Parnell) 29th in 25.08.

The 3-person team finished 2nd overall – a fantastic result!
