On Friday 15 May, a group of King’s students who are interested in space endeavoured on an out of this school event. We learnt how to calibrate telescopes such as the ‘Sky Walker’ and used them to explore the world beyond Earth. The keen boys and girls found it very interesting to follow Jupiter which was visible on the day. We would often hear exclamations: “WOW, you can see the band on Jupiter!” - stargazing for students just upgraded to planet gazing.
Staff Expertise!
On the night, we fortunately had the aid of Mr Horacek-Glading, his expertise brought great insight for all the students. He also brought his own “Seestar telescope”, which basically takes lots of pictures and layers. This allowed us to get a great layered picture of other galaxies. We greatly appreciate Mr Horocek-Glading taking the time to share his personal interests with us.
What’s next?
Our first astronomy night was a hit, the astronomy club leadership team is looking forward to hosting one more big event in Term 2 and a few smaller events. Watch out for more astronomical events!
