On Saturday 20 September the North Island School Shooting Championships were held over three events - Single Rise, Points Score and Single Barrel. Andi Muirhead (Year 12, Marion Bruce) finished 3rd equal with six other girls in the Single Barrel event, shooting very well but missing out on her 13th target.
On Sunday 21 September, the NZ Secondary School National Championship took place, with 302 shooters participating. This featured the same three events as before with Andi finishing second among the girls in the Single barrel event, dropping only one target in tough windy conditions - an excellent achievement as she competed against the best young shooters across NZ.
There is also a New Zealand Regional team shoot held throughout the championship and through the winter King’s College has been competing in the Auckland/Waikato regional competition against other schools in the region.
Over the two days the top male and female shooters from our region are selected to then shoot against the 11 other regions of New Zealand. Due to her consistent shooting over the competition, Andi finished second highest shooter in our region earning her place in the Auckland/Waikato team. Despite challenging weather conditions, she stayed composed under pressure and claimed 1st place in the girl’s event, while the Auckland/Waikato team finished 2nd overall.
Well done Andi!
