Media Studies 48 Hour Film Challenge

48 Hour Film Competition – Lights, Camera, Chaos!

Thursday 28 August 2025

From Friday 15 August to Sunday 17 August, four brave teams of students took on the ultimate guerrilla filmmaking challenge: creating a short film from scratch in just 48 hours! Armed with cameras, creativity, and plenty of snacks, our teams - Team Ken, Team Barbie, Team Han Solo, and Team Chewbacca - rose to the occasion.

The challenge? Each team was randomly assigned a film genre and had to weave in four specific elements:

  1. An accident
  2. Something precious
  3. A miniature
  4. A slow-motion moment

Team Frankie

What followed was a whirlwind of scriptwriting, filming, editing, laughter, and the occasional moments of chaos. Despite the time pressure, every team pulled together and produced amazing short films that showed off their originality, technical skills, and sense of humour.

As always, it wasn’t just about the final product - the passion, creativity, teamwork and hilarious blooper reels made the weekend truly unforgettable. Students learned the highs and lows of fast-paced filmmaking, proving once again that Media Studies is as much about the journey as it is about the polished result.

Team Ken

We couldn’t be prouder of our filmmakers, and with the heats now underway, we’ll be watching closely to see how far our teams progress. No matter the outcome, their commitment and creativity have already made them winners in our eyes.

A huge thank you must go to the team leaders for guiding their crews, and to the host families who generously opened their homes for the weekend, giving our students not just a base to work from, but a space filled with support, encouragement and lots of pizza boxes!

Well done to all our talented teams - we can’t wait to see what stories you tell next.
