Anzac Day Memorial Service

Join us for a Commemorative Anzac Day Service at King’s College, as we come together to honour those who have served and sacrificed for their country.

Time: Chapel Service at 9.30am, followed by morning tea in the Dining Hall.

Anzac Day Adress by Ian Civil

Ian attended the University of Auckland School of Medicine completing his MBChB in 1976. He simultaneously enlisted in the Territorial Force and served in the Auckland University Medical Company becoming the Officer Commanding in the early 80s. After completing training as a surgeon, Ian worked in the USA for 3 years and returned to a Regular Force position with the RNZ Army and the University of Auckland from 1988-1993. During this time he undertook active service as part of Operation Desert Storm and was the Commanding Officer of the 1st NZ Army Medical Team. After leaving the NZDF in the mid-1990s Ian worked as a trauma and vascular surgeon at Auckland City Hospital and was active in surgical governance roles becoming President of a number of organizations including the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons from 2010-2012. Ian’s other roles included Colonel Commandant of the RNZAMC from 2000-2005, Deputy Chair of the Veterans Health Assessment Panel, 2019-present, and Chair of the Clinical Governance Committee of the Order of St John, 2007-2020. More recently he served as Clinical Director of the NZ National Trauma Network and still has an active role in trauma care at Auckland City Hospital
