Chapel Centenary Dinner - 26 June

As the end of the term draws nigh, we are looking forward to hosting our Chapel Centenary Dinner. This event promises to be an exciting one, providing opportunity for our community to join a special gathering in the Chapel, followed by a celebratory dinner in the College Dining Room to mark the Chapel’s Centenary year. I can confirm we will be hearing from Old Collegians John Fauvel, Dr Julyan Lawry and The Rev’d Onosai Auva’a who represent different eras of the College and who will be regaling us with stories as part of a panel interview about their memories of the Chapel.

You can join us for this special event on Thursday 26 June by clicking on this link to purchase tickets. We would love to see you there.

The shape of the evening is as follows:

5pm – Rehearsal for choir and attendees who wish to refresh The Hallelujah Chorus
6pm – Organ, choir recital and short service, including a rendition of The Hallelujah Chorus
7pm – Move to dining room
7.30pm – 8.30pm – Dinner and Panel discussion/sharing about the Chapel + opportunity for anyone else to share their Chapel experiences
8.45pm – Tea and coffee, dessert
9.00pm - Finish

(Timing is subject to change – particularly from 7pm onwards)

This week, is a very busy one for our community service outreach. Last Sunday, we were delighted to be able to see thirteen students involved in the annual Tōtara Hospice fundraiser, called the Gala Long Luncheon. Our students out did themselves as they helped wait on tables and serve those who had purchased tickets at a beautiful venue in Ramarama. The weather stayed fine, and we are delighted to report from Jodie Pretscherer, the events organiser that it "was an absolute pleasure to have your students again this year. Please pass this on to the rest of the school as they really represented it in such a beautiful way…"

With these kind of events, there is more demand than we have spaces, so priority was given to Year 13 and then Year 12 students. A big thank you to the following students:

Jessie Thorsen (Year 12, Taylor), Elizabeth Walker (Year 12, Marion Bruce), Alice Graham (Year 13, Taylor), Indy King (Year 12, Taylor), Violet Liu (year 12, Marion Bruce), Mia Eriksen (Year 12, Taylor), Maxine Barry (Year 13, Marion Bruce), Isabelle Dansted (Year 12, Marion Bruce), Zach Sinclair-Grant (Year 13, Selwyn), Nellie Garbett (Year 12, Taylor), Katie Baber (Year 12, Taylor), Oscar Innes (Year 12, Averill) and Molly Farrands (Year 12, Marion Bruce).

Runathon 2025

On Friday we held our Chapel Runathon for 2025. Thanks to Melanie Wang (Year 13, Marion Bruce) and Jordan Yang (Year 13, Greenbank) we had the most stunning singlets that have been purchased by many of our students. It was fantastic to see our students getting out on the track to run for this year’s cause - the children affected by the famine in the Darfur region. UNICEF is our charity of choice and we are looking forward to seeing how much money was raised during the event.

Please note, it is the students’ responsibility to make sure the money is collected and handed in please by the end of Term 2. Thank you so much for your incredible support of this vitally important fundraiser.

Finally, would you like your son or daughter to be baptised? The last opportunity to join in the Baptismal Service set for Matariki weekend, Sunday 22 June is Sunday 15 June, to ensure we have time to prepare for it. Please feel free to email me at g.walters@kingscollege.school.nz if you would like to be involved.

Peace and grace,

Rev Gareth Walters
