Winning Pair NISS

Year 13 students Daniel Williamson (Averill) and James Hall (St John’s) have been selected to represent New Zealand at the Junior World Championships. The competition will be held later this year in August and will see our young men travelling to Lithuania.

Both rowers were crucial in our recent success at the Maadi Cup Regatta in late March, winning multiple gold medals for the Boys U18 Pair, U18 Quad and U17 Quad.

Williamson has been selected as part of the Junior Men’s Coxless Four, whilst Hall has been chosen to row for the Junior Men’s Coxless Pair.

Head of Rowing Nick Lloyd says the selection is a wonderful opportunity for the boys and a great honour for the College.

“The teams in which they have been chosen are the only two ‘sweep’ boats that New Zealand has selected,” says Lloyd.

It’s a huge honour to have two out of six members of these crews coming from King’s.”

James Hall says their selection in the squad came down to a lot of hard work.

"We're about to enter another stage of training, as we progress into the rowing New Zealand program. I am looking forward to being part of the New Zealand team and achieving more of my rowing goals," says Hall.

In addition to this result, Year 12 rowers Sam Cummins (Averill) and Alexander Sutcliffe (Major) were selected in the North Island U18 team to compete against the South Island in the Under 18 North vs South Regatta, with Cummins selected as captain for the team. The regatta finished in a dead-heat between the North and South Island, with both teams finishing on 70 points.
