On Sunday 8 March, King’s enjoyed success in a series of debates held for the ‘Seasonal Championships’ in Auckland.

Two teams from King’s College entered the competition, which attracted top debaters from schools including Auckland Grammar School, St Kentigern College, St Cuthbert’s College and Sacred Heart College.

Our A team won their first two debates easily. In the third round they were up against the eventual winners, St Cuthbert’s College, affirming the moot, “Awards such as the Oscars and the Grammies should be given out in categories recognising the ethnic group of the recipients”.

Although St Cuthbert’s College narrowly won the round, King’s took home a respectable third place. Furthermore, Head Girl Amanda Ngo won the Best Speaker award against some exceptional talent.

Congratulations to Amanda, Martin Luk and Courtney Varney.

Our second team, Dylan Parshotam, Peter Xu, Amelia Gunson, also did well, winning two rounds out of three.
