An annual competition held at the College, the Soloist Competition comprises two sections; Senior (Year 11-13) and Junior (Year 9-10) with two prizes in each section.
The finalists performed for an external judge and this year we were privileged to have Sarah Watkins, a very well-regarded and successful pianist who performs as part of the NZTrio, touring internationally with them, and is also one of the official pianists for the Michael Hill International Violin Competition.
The following students were awarded prizes:
Senior
Delvan Lin (Year 12)received the Senior Competition Winner prize with his performance of Chopin’s Ballade No.1 on the piano.
Euwin Tan (Year 13) received the Senior Competition Best Interpretation prize performing Ginastera’s Suite de Danzas Criollas also on piano.
Junior
Daniel Ai (Year 10) received the Junior Competition Winner prize performing Mendelssohn’s Song Without Words No.4, Op.10 on cello.
Clement Chan (Year 9) received the Junior Competition Best Interpretation performing Wieniawski’s Legende on violin.
All of the finalists performed exceptionally well. A big congratulations to the above winners.
