On Saturday 18 February Selwyn House welcomed a group of refugees from the Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre to King’s College for a fun-filled afternoon of football, touch and running relays.

Great weather and an enthusiastic group of Selwyn House students ensured the event ran smoothly. The refugees also shared some of their own culture, including showing the Selwyn House Boarders traditional dances from their home countries.

Organiser of the event and Selwyn House Sacristan, Declan Forrest (Year 13) is grateful for all the help received and the success of the afternoon.

“The help and assistance offered by all of the Selwyn House students who gave up their time to come back to school on a Saturday meant that the refugees received a great King’s College welcome.”

The success of this student-run event opens up an opportunity to look at new ways to further the relationship between the Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre and the College even more.
