The King’s College First XV season came to a close on Saturday with a loss to Auckland Grammar School.

The weather cleared in time to let both teams play good running rugby but neither team was able to cross the line in the first half, instead trading penalties with Grammar up 12-9 at half time.

King’s made too many uncharacteristic mistakes which meant our boys weren’t able to get any continuity. This meant the phase play from which they love to attack wasn’t there this week. With 10 minutes left in the game Grammar was able to apply pressure, finally crossing the line and converting, pushing the score out to 19-12. With time almost up on the clock King’s threatened the AGS line but we just weren’t able to cross. The full time whistle came all too soon and put an end to what has been an exciting and enjoyable year.

The team would like to thank everyone in the King’s Community for their support throughout the year. It was heart-warming to have the King’s supporters perform a Haka for the boys at the end of the game. It created a feeling that the school knew that although the team worked hard, they weren’t quite able to get there.
