The King's Sailing Team recently competed at the Team Racing Nationals in Taupo and retained their position in the Gold fleet.

The Gold fleet comprises the top ten teams (from regional rankings) out of thirty schools. The remaining schools are in the Silver and Bronze fleets.

The team competed in three round robins. Each round robin is 90 races long. With good winds and some close racing, it was exciting to watch.

The first round robin went well. We managed to keep out of the repechage (three of the bottom and three of the top teams in the fleets race off to move up and down) and ended up coming 6th. There was hardly anything between 3rd and 7th; one more win would have seen us placed 3rd.

The second round robin started with some disappointing results and we made some errors of judgment. However we did spring back, leaving us 7th.

We did not do as well as we had hoped in the third round robin, finishing 9th.

Overall King's came 8th, so still in the Gold fleet, which is a big achievement.

Congratulations to all the boys involved.
