Road to the Nats is a new reality television show that goes behind-the-scenes to capture the drama, excitement and fiery competition in the lead-up to the 2016 National Secondary Schools Kapa Haka Competition - and King's College features.

After our fourth placing in Division One at the 2015 ASB Polyfest, the King's College Kapa Haka group is busily preparing for their first time at Nationals. This 12-episode series shines a light on the blood, sweat and tears that goes into creating a Kapa Haka team worthy of the National title.

As a viewer, you will get an exclusive glimpse at the intense training and teamwork that goes into each performance. Students, tutors and parents feature in interviews, revealing the passion behind the school’s team, putting their 'mana' on the line. They all really want to win and are prepared to put in the necessary hard work.

The series uses the Kapa Haka competition as its umbrella, but the real essence is the students and their relationships, both in the group and within the wider school community. The programme also explores the decisions and sacrifices the students have to make whilst pursuing roles in New Zealand representative and top school sports teams.

Produced by Cinco Cine Film Productions Limited, Road to the Nats premieres on Māori Television at 7.00pm on Thursday, 19 May.
