It is with great sadness that King's College has been informed of the passing of John Whelan, former Deputy Headmaster of King’s College.
John came to King’s in 1951 and taught in the History Department. He was a Housemaster for School, Selwyn and St John’s Houses over the course of his time at King’s, and was instrumental in launching rowing at the College, as well as coaching swimming and rugby.
He was Deputy Headmaster at the time of his retirement in 1985.
John passed peacefully on Saturday, 31 January, aged 94 years.
