Year 9 student Abhinav Makam had an impressive three days at the New Zealand Junior Swimming Championships, which ran from Friday, 19 till Sunday, 21 February at the Sir Owen G. Glenn National Aquatic Centre in Auckland.

Abhinav entered into 11 individual events and was chosen for two Regional Relays representing Auckland.

He finished with three Golds, two Silvers and three Bronzes in individual events, and two Golds in both the Relays.

Abhinav set personal bests in every race, even including the three races he didn’t receive medals in.
 
Abhinav’s final results are as below.

- 1st: 50m Butterfly
- 1st: 100m Butterfly
- 1st: 50m Breaststroke
- 1st: 200m Freestyle Regional Relay (team event)
- 1st: 200m Individual Medley Regional Relay (team event)
- 2nd: 200m Individual Medley
- 2nd: 100m Breaststroke
- 3rd: 50m Freestyle
- 3rd: 100m Freestyle
- 3rd: 200m Breaststroke
- 5th: 400m Freestyle
- 5th: 100m Backstroke
- 6th: 50m Backstroke
