Geneva Roy.
When Geneva Roy (Year 13, Taylor House) was younger, her parents always used to say that she loved arguing and was very talkative. Taking up debating at King’s gave her a natural platform to ‘argue’ but in a more formal manner.
“I always really enjoyed public speaking and when speeches came around I was the only one of my classmates who looked forward to them.”
Geneva also loves politics and international relations and debating allows her to explore these areas of interest in greater depth.
“For me, debating combines the things I love the most and I am always learning new things.”
Geneva says that King’s debating programme which runs from Years 9 to 13 has enabled her to compete in the Auckland Secondary Schools Debating competitions from which she was selected for the Auckland Regional team where they got the opportunity to debate in Parliament House in Wellington.
In the heart of the debating season, she trains three to four times a week and eight to ten hours on Saturdays and Sundays leading up to a major competition.
“King’s will always be for me the place where my debating took off, the place where I found who I was and what I loved to do,” she says.
Geneva values the amazing support network and all the opportunities King’s offers.
“It really is a place where everything is at your fingers tips.”
Geneva Roy features in our 2017 “Find yourself at King’s” marketing campaign. Keep an eye out for Geneva’s billboard across Auckland, on ads on Facebook and in a variety of key publications.
