One King’s Year 9 team successfully beat more than 100 participating teams and won the competition.

“The Year 9 Cup was created in 1998 and this was the first time a King’s Year 9 team has claimed it. The best results in recent years include third for a Year 10 team in 2016 and second for a Year 9 team in 2015,” says Deputy Head of Mathematics, May Meng.

This year’s winning team comprises the following talented myathematicians: Andrew Yu (Year 9, Marsden), Bailey Liu (Year 9, Averil), Wesley Ngo (Year 9, Marsden) and Cole Barfoot (Year 9, Marsden). They demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills and should be warmly congratulated on this tremendous achievement.

In the well-known competition, organised by Auckland Mathematical Association, students work in teams of four to solve problems in a loud environment and under time pressure.

The Maths department would also like to extend appreciation and acknowledgement to the parents who went along and supported our students.

Thank you to AMA Exec and NZAMT President Gillian Frankcom-Burgess who made a special effort to stop by King’s this week and present the Cup to the Year 9 winners (pictured).
