In extremely wet conditions, the team started well and made repeated forays into the Auckland Grammar circle but could not convert our early ascendancy into goals. Auckland Grammar got their first goal in the seventh minute against the run of play which came off a deflection from our defender’s stick. The second goal came in the 15th minute of the second half off a defensive turnover.
Our boys went on the offensive and dominated the last quarter of the match and pulled one back when Aiden Fraser (Year 11, Averill) scored off a well taken penalty corner. We managed to force three more penalty corners thereafter, one in the last minute of the game but Auckland Grammar defended well to see out the game.
Plenty of positives for a young King’s team who will take a lot of learnings from this defeat and keep building for the rest of the season.
