King’s College has made the decision to shut down for the day due to smoke traveling across our grounds.
- Day students and staff are advised to head home as soon as possible by train or their own car.
- Day students who are usually picked up by car are being directed to Day Houses and where appropriate, they will be relocated to a modern building in the school. Their parents will be contacted individually.
- Boarders are being moved to Boarding Houses and where appropriate, they will be relocated to a modern building in the school.
There is no immediate cause for alarm. However, the College has chosen this course of action as the health and safety of our students and staff is paramount.
The College has spoken to the Fire Department who are focusing their efforts on controlling and putting out the fire.
Note that road closures are in place and are being managed by Police and Auckland Transport in and around the site of the fire, and there is expected to be significant heavy traffic to and from the College throughout the day as a result.
We anticipate that students will be able to return to the College tomorrow and for classes to resume as normal. The College will keep parents, students and staff updated if this is not the case.
