King’s had groups in each of the four categories: Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Stage Band and Concert Band.

Our Premier Concert Band came away with gold (95 per cent) and was selected as one of the top four Concert Bands to perform at the afternoon Gala Concert on the Saturday.

With more than 3,500 musicians involved, it is the largest regional music event for seconday school students in New Zealand.

Over five days, 145 groups from 48 schools each presented a 30 minute performance. In addition, there were two Honours groups, a chamber orchestra and a concert band with the best students, which included five from King’s.

King’s had groups in each of the four categories: Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Stage Band and Concert Band.

String Orchestra, Little Big Band and Symphony Orchestra all came away with silver, with Symphony Orchestra also receiving a Chairman’s Command Performance award for their great performance of The Iron Foundry.

Chris Adams, Head of Music at King’s College says he is very proud of the students.

“I’m particularly pleased with the results, which are among the best that the College has received. It acknowledges the hard work of the students, staff and tutors involved,” says Adams.
