At the completion of the Northern Region Under-18 tournament, King’s College student Joe Johnston has been named in an Auckland Under 18 representative side for a one-off fixture about Wellington on the weekend of 3-4 October.

The team is made up of players from Auckland East, Auckland West and Auckland Divisional teams and excludes those involved in the New Zealand Schools campaign.

The main purpose of this team is to recognise the best Secondary School talent in Auckland.

"We hope it will help us to retain as many of them as possible to populate our two Under-19 teams next year," said High Performance Manager Ben Meyer.

"It is also a way to recognise players across all the 1st XV teams, there was a need to pick a team that was a true Auckland representative team at this age grade given we have a regional system at present to try give more boys the opportunity to play in stronger competitions and get another level of coaching."

Meyer said it was important to note that many players didn't make this selection and need to remember that 50 players are chosen across the two Under-19 teams next year.

Congratulations Joe and best wishes for the tournament.
