King's College recently held the IHC Social in the Great Hall.
If you have not heard of IHC, it is an organisation that provides support for those who are intellectually disabled and the College helps them to live a satisfying life as part of our community.
Each year, as well as visiting IHC homes as part of our community service, we hold a social for people from IHC to get together and have the times of their lives – this year’s theme being fluro!
The whole night was so much fun dancing on the dance floor and getting to know the people at IHC. It was such a privilege to be a part of the IHC Social and all of us had an experience that can only truly be understood first hand.
Although each individual encountered a unique night, there was a definite mutual feeling of enjoyment from being able to make somebody so happy just by being friendly or by words of encouragement.
Towards the end of the night, Reverend Wilder went up on stage and presented awards to those who especially brightened up the room. It was very rewarding for all of us to see the happiness within them that came from just a little gift and recognition.
There were many highlights throughout the night for each of us, and it was an experience that will not be forgotten. We hope that next year there can be a bigger turn out and for you all to share our experience; it only takes one night to make someone so happy.
