Both the Boys' and the Girls' First XI Hockey teams had wins this week, resulting in a good week for hockey at the College.

On Wednesday, 27 May the Boys' First XI beat Auckland Grammar School 3-2 in its annual encounter, courtesy of goals from Daneel Ovtcharenko, Oliver Paterson and Nic Hamlin, to win the Grammar-King’s Shield. It was a fiercely-contested game and despite Grammar scoring first and keeping the pressure up, King's managed to outplay their opposition shown by Oliver Paterson's brilliant goal, less than 20 seconds into the second half. This magnificent play continued throughout the second half to secure the victory. The team now plays Pakuranga College in the semi-finals of the Auckland Secondary Schools Championships on Wednesday, 3 June.

On Thursday, 28 May the Girls' First XI drew 0-0 away at Mount Roskill Grammar School and then won a dramatic penalty shoot-out 5-4. Alanna O’Riley pulled off an important save in the shoot-out and Millie Baker scored the important penalty. This means that the Girls' team has made the top four in Auckland, which is an outstanding achievement. April Kerr was Player of the Day.
