The aim of Shadow a Leader is to give secondary school students and the opportunity to follow a business leader for a day and to understand what it takes to succeed in the leader’s profession.
The Shadow a Leader day began with breakfast at AUT for all participating business leaders and students. After breakfast, the students followed their ‘leader’ on their activities for the day.
Tom shadowed Graeme Free, Head of Specialist Solutions at BNZ Partners, and George shadowed Darryl-Lee Wendelborn, Operations Manager – Environment at Beca Carter, Hollings and Ferner.
Head of Business Studies and Accounting, Sharon Lofroth, says both students were identified as having future business leadership potential.
“Both boys thoroughly enjoyed the day and had the opportunity to meet with and observe a wide range of staff in their roles,” says Sharon.
Tom Reeves explains what an amazing experience it was to be privy to the conversations of influential business people.
“It was fantastic to witness the speed and level at which the BNZ corporate team operates. I was given the opportunity to learn and read about legal developments in the news and see first hand how BNZ planned to adapt to those changes," says Tom.
