The King’s College First XI recorded their second win at the North Harbour Hockey Stadium this season by defeating Rangitoto College 3-0.
The weather was much kinder than our earlier trip over the bridge and a dominant start saw the team create a number of early opportunities. The Rangitoto goalkeeper did make some excellent saves and frustrated the King’s strikers. King’s opened the scoring with a field goal from Nick Hamlin in the 20th minute of the first half.
Our middle patch of the game felt like we lacked a bit of intensity but after some clear messages at the interval we seemed to regain control of the game again – some good build up play and more constructed attacks.
Furthermore, very good scrambling defences in the second half kept them scoreless, and our persistence on attack paid off with two late goals – a penalty corner from Mitchell Murray and a field goal from Oliver Paterson.
The game saw captain Oliver Williamson reach a significant milestone which not many players have achieved – 100 appearances for the First XI.
Next week the First XI play Westlake Boys' High School at 6.00pm at King’s College.
