Our AS Media Studies class recently visited Wellington on Friday 9 June to further their learning about the New Zealand film industry.

During the trip our students got to visit Park Road Post Productions, where they learnt about sound design, visual effects and colour grading. Park Road Post Productions is where top kiwi films, such as the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Dark Horse were edited.

The students were then treated to a presentation by the New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC), where they learnt about how the NZFC fosters creative New Zealand talent and filmmakers, from pre-production to production, through to marketing and distribution.

The final stop on the Wellington trip was Weta Workshop, where students were able to engage in hands on learning about the art department, where props are made, prosthetics, models, 3D printing, and weapons for the films. The group also got to meet Sir Richard Taylor, who won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
