Sunday 15 February 2015

The Valentine’s Dinner Dance was held on Friday, 13 February at the Northern Club in a beautifully presented and intimate setting overlooking the Auckland skyline. The venue was bathed in golden hues by the lingering sunset as guests arrived. This was perfectly complimented by the sensuous Late Night Jazz who performed a polished and elegant set of popular jazz standards, including the beautiful Cry Me a River, the reflective Summertime and the upbeat Lady is a Tramp.

The room was set up with tables surrounding the dance floor, focused around the bands. Following Late Night Jazz’s performance, guests were treated to a sumptuous three-course meal accompanied by the Auckland University Jazz Trio, including Old Collegian and band tutor, Olliver O'Loughlin (Marsden, 2008-12).

The evening concluded with a set from the Burtones, which brought the guests on to the dance floor to dance the night away, with their unique blend of reggae, blues and jazz inspired versions of popular tunes, ranging from Cream’s Crossroads, to Mark Ronson's Uptown Funk.

Congratulations to Mr Gary Burton, Mr Chris Artley, Ms Gemma Angus and all the students involved for a very well-prepared, presented and enjoyable evening.
