Friday 24 June 2016

On Thursday 9 June eight men were inducted into the New Zealand Business Hall of Fame, including our very own Old Collegian, Sir Rob Fenwick (St John's, 1964-68).

Each recipient also had a student escort that was, or had been, involved in the Young Enterprise Trust Business Competition.

I (Finn Ross) had the honour of inducting Sir Rob Fenwick. This was an even bigger deal as earlier that week, he had been knighted for services to business and the environment. I gave the first induction speech of the night and took part in the formalities that proceeded. For the induction, I was on stage with Hon. Bill English, Samantha Hayes, Sir Rob and Michael Barnett.

Sir Rob has a incredible list of achievements in the business and environmental sector, including implementing the New Zealand waste strategy and the bottled water brand, NZ Natural.

It was an incredible opportunity to be a part of such a big event and gave a great insight into what it takes to be one of the most successful businessmen in New Zealand, and internationally.

The thing that stood out to me was the fact that all eight inductees had an aspect of social consideration in their business that had helped them be so successful. This came about through my success last year co-running my charity 'Let Them Fish' with Max Lichtenstein.
