Friday 31 August 2018

The King’s community were a stylish sight on Friday 24 August, with more than 140 ladies gathering at Harbourside Bar and Grill for the 14th annual Ladies Lunch, presented by the Friends and sponsored by Orsini Fine Jewellery.

Guests were treated to a three-course meal, an interactive fashion show by Orsini Fine Jewellery and Loobie’s Story, and an inspiring talk from guest speaker and Everybody Eats founder, Nick Loosley (Marsden/School, 1999-2003).

Nick struck a chord with the audience as he shared his personal story behind Everybody Eats, a pop-up restaurant at Gemmayze St, St Kevins Arcade. Each Monday, Everybody Eats feed around 250 people, from all walks of life, a restaurant quality, three-course meal. Each meal is prepared by volunteer chefs from perfectly good food that would otherwise go to waste.

“Food really is the most amazing tool we have for bringing people together. We’ve realised that by treating everyone equally, with dignity and respect, that each week we are slowly having an impact on people socially, as they begin to trust those they share their meal with. I’ve seen people who have lived on the streets for decades sitting barefoot opposite lawyers in suits, engaging in meaningful conversations over a bowl of hot soup.”

To top of a wonderful evening Friends President Liz Barnett was on hand to announce the various auction winners from the large display of prizes up for grabs. All money raised from the auctions and the lunch will be fed back to the College, once allocated by the Friends Committee.

The Friends would like to give a special thank you to their Gold Sponsor Orsini Fine Jewellery’s Sarah Hutchings, guest speaker Nick Loosley, MC Hamish McKay from Bayleys St Heliers and Harbourside Bar and Grill. Thank you also to everyone that came out and made the lunch a fun occasion for all.
