A big congratulations to Old Collegian Dylan Schmidt (Selwyn, 2011-14) who has qualified for the Olympic Games in trampolining.

No Kiwi competitor has made the Olympic field since trampolining joined the Games gymnastic programme in Sydney in 2000, so this is an absolutely amazing achievement for Dylan.

After placing second at the test event in Rio de Janeiro, the 19-year-old was thrilled to have the chance to compete at such a high level in an environment similar to what he would be experiencing at the Olympics.

Dylan proved his ability to compete on a world stage when he won gold at the Youth Olympics in China in 2014. Later that year, he finished 15th in his first Open World Championships with his ultimate goal to qualify for the Olympics. In 2015, he improved to ninth in the World Championships in Denmark, just outside of his goal of a top-eight finish which would have secured New Zealand a quota place in Rio, but he proved himself at the Olympic test event with his second placing.

Trampolining since the age of five, Dylan first competed at the 2009 World Junior Championships in Russia when he was 12.

The King's community is so very proud of you Dylan, and we wish you all the best in Rio.
