After six debates over two days, students Regan Chen, Max Finnegan and Oliver Zou have achieved a personal best performance in coming second in the final of the Auckland Schools Debating Championships held at Saint Kentigern College and latterly Auckland University on Saturday, 22 August and Sunday, 23 August.

In the quarter finals they dismissed first-ranked Auckland Grammar School 1, then Saint Cuthbert's College 1 to reach the final.

Affirming that "This House would cast the next James Bond as a female role" against Saint Cuthbert's College proved their undoing.

A familiar topic, it was won on the basis that just swapping gender did nothing to advance the cause of equal rights for women - the same winning argument that won for the negating team the last time this moot was debated. (At King's last year in a senior inter-House final.)

Max volunteered for the tournament from the Junior Open team to join Regan and Oliver from the Junior Premier teams. Their achievement is all the more remarkable as neither team made its break in the Auckland Schools Debating competitions last term.
