Over the weekend of Saturday, 28 and Sunday, 29 March, King's College students competed in the Auckland Regional Debating Championships (ARDC).

Entering three teams, two teams made it through to the top eight.

As this was a really competitive field, this was a fantastic achievement, but unfortunately both teams were knocked out in the quarter-finals.

The moot was “This house believes that members of political parties, and not the MPs, should elect the party leader”.

Amanda Ngo was chosen as 'Best Speaker', and will be a member of the Auckland Regional team that will compete at Nationals later in the year. An extremely gifted and intelligent debater, this award is thoroughly deserved.

The last King's student to be chosen for this team was Ashley Varney, who went on to be selected to represent New Zealand at the World Debating Competition.

Good luck Amanda! The King's community is behind you.

Martin Luk and Courtney Varney were also Highly Commended at the ARDC.
