The weekend consisted of a team time trial, a road race, and a criterium. King’s had some remarkable success give the strength of numbers we have against some of the bigger schools.
Some highlights were:
Sam Scott (Year 9, Peart) – 2nd in Under 15 B criterium
Oli Fisher (Yar 10, Marsden) – 9th in Under 15 road race
Tim Matthews (Year 11, Greenbank) – 6th in Under 17B criterium
James Archibald (Year 12, Selwyn) – 5th in Under 20 B criterium
The outstanding highlight was Theo Gilbertson (Greenbank, Year 13) who won the prestigious Under 20 road race, breaking away to ride solo for the last 10 kms to claim a deserved and hard fought victory. Following that Theo jumped on a plane to Canada and competed for a NZ selection in the Tour de L’Abitibi where he featured prominently.
“All up it was a successful holiday period for King’s College Cycling and the boys all represented the School with pride and distinction,” says Andrew Walton, Teacher-in-charge of Cycling.
