Our First XI boys suffered a disappointing loss to a much-fancied St Kentigern College, going down 1-3 in the semi-final of the Super City competition.

St Kentigern College, with eight representative players in their ranks, went into the lead ten minutes into the first half through a well-structured field goal. Our boys were in the contest and dominated much of the second half until two goals in two minutes changed the tide of the game. Our boys kept fighting and did well to pull a goal back through a well taken penalty corner set piece, scored by Aiden Fraser off a great pass by Sam Grenfell. Unfortunately, it was all a bit too late and the team will now play off for third place in the Auckland City competition.

The team, fielding a young look after the loss of last year’s senior Year 13 boys and our experienced coach Hitendra Patel, turned in some encouraging performances throughout the season and are excited to make further progress next year.

“We also had our annual Tauranga Hockey Tournament in the third week of the holidays and I was very pleased with our team performances there, losing our first game, drawing the next one and finally winning the last game,” says Captain Keiran Patel. “These matches were all against top quality oppositions and puts us in good position moving forward to the supercity playoffs and the Rankin Cup.”
