On Thursday 15 February the Auckland qualifying tournament for the Secondary Schools Tennis Nationals took place at Saint Kentigern College, with King’s entering a Mixed four-person team and a Premier Boys team.

The Mixed four-person team players were Flynn Crackett (Year 13, Greenbank), Antonio Escobar-Flaunty (Year 12, Selwyn), Miranda Yuan (Year 11, Taylor) and Isobella Ng (Year 13, Taylor).

The teams’ first match was played against Kaipara College. After four Singles matches were played, the score was 4-0 to King’s. The next match against Saint Kentigern College was decidedly tougher, ending with a 0-4 loss.

On the second day, the Premier Boys team played against Saint Kentigern College and Westlake Boys’ High School. The players were Filippo La Cava (Year 13, Major), Lakhan Clark (Year 12, Major), Callum Mackay-Peters (Year 11, Peart) and Christoph Grant (Year 9, Marsden).

They put up a great contest in the Singles rounds but were unable to win on the day after two losses in the Doubles matches. 

Singles match results:

-          Filippo La Cava: WON 6-4, 6-3

-          Lakhan Clark: WON 6-7, 6-3,6-4

-          Callum Mackay-Peters: LOST 4-6,1-6

-          Christoph Grant: LOST 5-7, 3-6

Doubles match results:

-          #1 Doubles La Cava and Clark LOST 7-5, 2-6, 6-10

-          #2 Doubles Mackay-Peters and Grant LOST 5-7, 6-7
