Medical Centre Staff

Whakaora Cottage, our Medical Centre, located between School House and Greenbank House, offers a 24-hour, 7-day a week service for boarding students and the care of Day students during College hours.

We are fortunate to have the Mangere Family Doctors Medical Centre and Middlemore Hospital virtually on our doorstep if a student requires medical assessment during the school day or at night. Our team of fully qualified and dedicated health care professionals ensure that King's students are in good hands.

The school doctor is available from 7.30am to 9am for clinic for Boarders, and is on call during business hours Monday to Friday. Our 24-hour service is covered by the nursing team.

The Medical team includes six Registered Nurses:

  • Amanda Heron-Best – Pastoral Nurse Lead
  • Katrina Harris – Clinical Nurse Lead
  • Jenna Duehr
  • Artee Lal
  • Sam Woodsford
  • Briar Chlamers
  • Jo Senior

The Medical Centre also provides an onsite physiotherapy service, which can be accessed by all students during after school hours, 3.20pm to 5.20pm. A student must have permission from a parent or guardian to see a school physiotherapist. Simply call or send an email to confirm this permission.

There is now a $10 surcharge for each treatment under ACC. This will be charged to the parent/legal guardian account.

Non-ACC appointments are available for $40 and are 20 minutes in duration.

Cancellation and non-attendance policy: to be fair to other students, please advise the school nurse at least three hours prior to your appointment if you are unable to make it. Non-attendance charges are as follows:

First non-attendance: warning and no charge
Second and subsequent non-attendance: $40 fee
