Cricket is a summer sport played in Terms One and Four. The College runs fourteen boys teams and one girls team. The College boasts some of the best pitches in the country and matches are played on Saturday mornings. The First XI has a long tradition of success at both regional and national level, winning the National Secondary Schools title, Gillette Cup in 1999, 2004 a finalist in 2006 and won the title in 2010.

In the 2011 autumn edition of the King's Courier, Old Collegian Ben Jackson (Greenbank, 2004-08) noted that at school he "loved sports. However, unlike many of my fellow students, I was never any good at them." However, Jackson took his love for cricket in a different direction and was the first student at King's College to successfully complete umpiring courses accredited by the Auckland Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association (ACUSA).
