Why do ESOL?

This is a programme taught to overseas students who may need extra assistance with English because it is not their first language and they are required to study in it for all their subjects at King's College.


ESOL - Year Nine

This is a cross-curriculum programme and gives support and instruction in the four basic strands of language - reading, writing, listening and speaking - or may extend to particular study skills like research and interpreting examination questions. Year 9 students are withdrawn from Social Studies so have either three or four periods per week; other students have time as required on a regular or informal basis. Time is spent on New Zealand and supporting the students in a new educational environment.


ESOL - Year Ten

This is a cross-curriculum programme and gives support and instruction in the four basic strands of language - reading, writing, listening and speaking - or may extend to particular study skills like research and interpreting examination questions. Year 10 students are withdrawn from Modules so have either three or four periods per week; Classes focus on students individual needs with work in these subject areas.
