Sport at King’s

Sportsmanship is the art of competing strongly but fairly. Students at King’s through sport learn about and experience competition, teamwork, discipline, physical fitness, and initiative. Students learn how to win and lose graciously.

Sport is character-building and through participation, hard work and improving skills students work together to achieve individual and team goals. Through sport many life long friendships are forged.

King’s has a range of first-class facilities that include a water-based hockey turf, eight-lane synthetic athletic track, two gymnasia, squash courts, 8 tennis courts and a heated swimming pool plus many rugby and football fields.

At King’s, participation in both a summer and winter sport is compulsory for Year 9 to 11 students and at Year 12 and 13 students are encouraged to play at least one sport and it has been noted that through the foundations laid at the junior level over 90% of seniors continue in sport throughout their College life.

In all, 29 different sports are offered.

Students participate in competition that range from elite level to social grade and year after year King’s students achieve at National and International level in either team or individual activities In recent years the college can boast several All Blacks and Olympians.

Members of King’s teams are expected to commit to their team for the whole season, attend all practices, to wear the King’s sporting uniform with pride and play in a positive spirit.
