The Music School is located at the end of the Drive with a beautiful vista of oak trees and has one of the few teaching rooms with a view of the historic chapel. Ideally situated next to the Great Hall, the department is able to make use of this huge space for rehearsals and productions. Within this happy purposeful atmosphere lie 7 practice rooms, a piano/vocal teaching studio, a soundproofed drum room, two teaching rooms with wireless internet and a computer/locker room. There are 1.5 fulltime staff and a secretary. Extra tuition in every instrument is offered at the college by a team of 21 visiting music staff. Students sit examinations in each instrument and accompaniment is provided. Chapel Choristers receive free vocal sectionals and there is a chapel music scholarship available also alongside the traditional music scholarships. The department has a comprehensive stock of instruments for hire and in addition enjoys a full pipe organ, 4 pedal timpani, Bergerault vibraphone, marimba, tubas, tubular bells, Latin percussion, a Yamaha C7 grand piano and a marvellous Bosendorfer concert grand from Vienna and jazz cymbals with jazz chorus amplifiers. Quality of sound through use of quality instruments is seen as paramount to our aim and all students gain access to our quality instruments through performance and hire.
