Orchestra
The orchestra rehearses every Monday after school in Term I and every Thursday morning in Terms II and III. Entry is by audition and players enjoy quality coaching and training. Repertoire is demanding, challenging but rewarding. Recent pieces have included Borodin's Polovtsian Dances, Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto in C Minor (last movement), Prokofiev's Montagues and Capulets from Romeo and Juliet, Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March, Bruch's G minor Violin Concerto and Mozart's 40th Symphony in G minor. Every year the orchestra plays in Auckland Town Hall as part of the KBB Music Festival. Conductor Stuart Sherwood was trained at Cambridge University conducting many groups and whilst at St Paul's Cathedral School, London, conducted events like the annual orchestra and choir carol service under the dome of St Paul's Cathedral.
