Musician-in-Residence

2010 Musician-in-Residence

During Term Three, 2010, Matteo Napoli, Italian concert pianist, was in residence at the College. Student pianists had the opportunity to take part in an exciting programme, including a series of  three "open" piano lessons. Students also performed at a concert on 19 August, which  featured Matteo Napoli.

Musician-in-Residence History

In 2005, King's College led the way to be the first (and only) school in New Zealand to offer an International Musician-in-Residence programme. This features an internationally-known musician who stays for two weeks at the College and coaches students in their discipline.

Recent musicians have included Matteo Napoli (Piano professor, Palermo Conservatoire) Emil Chudnovsky (Violin Professor, Mannes College of Music, Washington DC) and Rodger Fox and the Rodger Fox Big Band, (Jazz Trombonist, NZ School of Music). Masterclasses and tuition is open to the public.

In 2009, the College welcomed The Musical Island Boys a talented Barbershop Quartet, wh originally formed in 2000 at Tawa College in Wellington. They have won numerous competitions, including winning the International title at the 2006 Barbershop Harmony Society's Convention in Indianopolis, USA - the first non-American group ever to do so.
