Debating
Teacher-in-Charge: Mr David Barclay Interested in debating in 2011? Debating is an organised clash of good ideas, a stimulating and formal intellectual contest between two teams. Certain rules must be followed. Each team has three speakers, each with specialised roles to play and speech lengths that are limited by time. A topic (moot) is set and each side aims to present relevant arguments and evidence to build its case. At the same time each speaker must rebut the other team’s arguments to destroy its credibility. At the end of the debate, the team whose case stands the tallest is judged the winner. (Pictured above) - The King's Senior Debating Team won the annual clash in Christchurch in 2009. The team of Richard Monigatti, Sam Poole and Tom Richards travelled to Christchurch to debate against Christ's College in the annual clash. King's argued the negative, debating the moot, "A Small Government is a good Government'. All three King's debaters had excellent performances against a strong Christ's team.
