King's Voices - the College's new Chamber Choir who have only been in existence for 6 months -  went to Wellington for the Big Sing Finale from 22 - 24 August, and have brought home King's highest ever award for a vocal competition!

Their two programmes of contrasting pieces earned them a silver award, putting them in the top 10 choirs out of 250 from around the country - or put simply, King's Voices are in the top 5% of New Zealand School's choirs. The group particularly impressed the large Wellington Town Hall audience with their magical rendition of Pedersen's Jesus Gjor Meg Stille, and they sent the crowd wild with their funky rendition of Guy Turner’s Tequila Samba!

The 26 singers in King’s Voices (ranging from Year 9 – Year 13) should be extremely proud of their achievement. In a competition where some huge schools dominated, and have done for many years, King’s Voices have not only been selected for the National Finals, but also performed so well down in Wellington that they have been selected as one of the top choirs for an award in the finals too. To have done this in their first year in the competition is a real triumph, and testament to the hard work of the students in the group, and their director, College Organist Nicholas Forbes. King’s College is fast establishing a tradition of choral excellence coupled with energy and entertainment value!
