Ka mau te wehi, Kingi Kareti!

On Friday, the King's College Kapa Haka group performed at the annual Polyfest at Manukau Sports Bowl.

The theme for the ASB Polyfest 2011 was: "Ko te kanorau ke te matua atua, ko te kotahitanga te koa - Diversity is the magic, Unity is the joy." King's College Kapa Haka group embraced this theme with its diverse group of Maori, Tongan, Niuean, Samoan and Pakeha students.

King's was competing in Division Three with 27 other schools and their performance was superbly led by Blair RUSH (St John's), who was outstanding.

In all categories the group excelled, with the following results:

1st  - Kaitataki Tane (Blair RUSH was awarded top male leader)
1st  - Mau Rakau (Weapon item)
1st  - Whakawātea (Exit)
2nd  - Haka
2nd  - Te Reo (Language proficiency)
3rd  - Moteatea (Traditional Song)
Overall  - 2nd  (which means a move up to Division Two in 2012 with the opportunity to compete to get into the first division, with the best 12 schools in Auckland)

Congratulations to Te Reo Maori teacher Lincoln Savage and to the Kapa Haka group for this outstanding achievement.
