First XI Hockey Report
The King's First XI Hockey team completed an outstanding domestic season, which has seen the side win every match in the Anzac Hockey Festival, Auckland Secondary Schools Championship and the Auckland Inter-city Championship, as well as the Tauranga Quadrangular Tournament. The team then travelled down to Rotorua for the annual Premier Secondary Schoolboy Tournament, the Rankin Cup, to be held from the 30th August - 3rd September during this term.
In pool play early in the week King's beat Napier Boys' High School 2-1, Wanganui High School 3-1, and Waiarapa College 3-0. In their quarter-final the team beat Christ¹s College 2-0 and in their semi-final were beaten 2-1 by the eventual tournament winners Christchurch Boys' High School. In the play-off for 3rd and 4th the team defeated Westlake Boys' High School 2-0. During the tournament King's won 5 and lost 1 game. Incidentally, the loss to Christchurch Boys' was the only loss of the season. Having played 30 games, winning 29 of them, and gaining 4 trophies along the way, hockey has once again secured it's place as the most successful sport at King's College.
