Badminton

The badminton team fought out a 3-3 draw with Auckland International College, but lost on a count back. The tightness of the competition is reflected in two of the games won by King’s when Cameron Mcleod won his singles 21-19, and Raymond Ke won 21-20 in his match.

Cycling

The King's A cycling team continued to improve and for the first time finished in 10th place in a team-best time of 23minutes 18 seconds.

The Senior B team had a tougher day and unfortunately did not race up to their best, finishing towards the end of the table. The team now looks forward to competing in the North Island Secondary Schools Championships to be held in Hamilton this coming weekend.

Football

Last Wednesday, the Girls First Football team started slowly against Diocesan School 2nd XI and at half time there was no score however, in the second half King's took control of the game with Georgia Agnew scoring twice and Alice Black finding the back of the net once for the team to record an excellent 3-0 victory.

An illness-depleted First XI had one of their better games of the season when they narrowly went down to Kevin Fallon’s Mt Albert Grammar School 2-0.

15B
defeated Sacred Heart College 2-1 with goals to Pawan Chaikwang and Greg Watson.

13B lost their game 2-0 to Mt Roskill in a game played almost entirely in the fog. Ollie Simpson was player of day with superb distribution.

Hockey

In the Annual King’s vs Grammar Hockey match played last Wednesday the King’s First XI dominated possession and territory early but in a break-out, Grammar scored first and carried a 1-0 lead into the break. This, despite the fact that King’s had over 75% of the possession and territory they were unable to finish. However, a fired up King’s team came out in the second half and after 10 minutes, Nick Sissons found the net and was shortly followed by Ben Horne scoring.
The King’s team continued to apply pressure and in the 26th minute Kim Kingston fired home a missile to put the game out of reach of Grammar and record a 3-1 victory.

Following the game King’s old boy and Black Stick, Simon Child present the team with the Auckland Hockey Championship Cup and the Grammar /King’s Shield an at assebmly on Friday, captain Adam Fleming presented the Championship Cup and Shield to the College.


Last Thursday, the Girls First XI played Baradene School in their last Auckland Championship Competition Game. Although King’s dominated both territory and possession a tightly-packed Barabene defence made it difficult for King’s to convert this advantage into points. However, Alex Martin broke the deadlock with a goal from a goalmouth scramble and then Jacqui Cole scored two more before half time. In the second half, the King’s girls opened the game up and held possession more effectively and were able to score off a Charlotte Bigelow corner. This resulted in a 4-0 victory and 4th place in the premier competition and a place in the inter-city finals. Special mention must go to Alice Black, who worked hard in defence and also had great vision in opening the game up on attack in the second half.

The boys 15A team were down 1-0 early to Macleans College but were able to bounce back to record a 4-1 victory. The King’s scorers were Charles Benedek-Rooney, Angus MacKenzie, Andre Chou and Ben Hall.

On Monday evening of this week, the Under-15A team played in a top-of-the-table clash with St Kentigern College and came away with a superb 5-1 victory with Campbell Monteith scoring 3 goals and 1 each from Aaron Tang and Jake Bracken.


An injury and illness depleted 15B team that played with only 10 men had a 3-2 victory over Lynfield College after being 3-0 up at half time and just managed to hang on for a gritty victory. Sam Clark was player-of-the-day and the goals were scored by Campbell Monteith with two and one from Daniel Green.

Also suffering from illness a depleted Girls 2nd Hockey team lost 2-1 to Diocesan School last Thursday evening.

4th XI finished their term’s fixtures unbeaten with a score of 7-0 against Kelston Boys High last Friday. This is the teams fourth game where they have scored more than 5 goals. Man-of-the-match on this occasion was departing exchange student, James Parker, who captained the team for his final game.

Netball

Team 1 had a closely fought game against Auckland Girls Grammar School going down narrowly 37-35 when our girls tired in the last few minutes. The player of the day was Harriet Dorrington. The team is also to be congratulated for being named The University of Auckland Team of the Week. This is awarded to one team each week out of all the different teams and grades for signifying commitment to fair play, spirit and overall sportsmanship.

Team 2 Had another impressive win when they defeated Mt Albert Grammar school in a very close game 33-31 after being behind 26-24 at the start of the final quarter. The team has been undefeated this term.


Team 3 played against Epsom Girls Grammar 7 in an exciting game where the strong King’s defence proved the difference between the two teams with King’s winning 32 -0. Player of the day for team 3 was Georgia Woodbridge for her great shooting and quick thinking with her positional play.

Rugby

On Saturday the First XV played against Tamaki College in their last home game of the season. In a match where both teams played an exciting positive attacking style of rugby. King’s were able to weather an early storm of attacks and two missed penalties from the big hard-charging Tamaki team. With King’s going into the break 17-7 ahead, thanks to tries to Kevin Fuavao and Ngataua Hukutai with Simon Hickey converting both and slotting a penalty. Ngataua Hukutai started the second half by leaving his marker for dead and scoring wide and the ever-present Andrew Jones was rewarded with a try from 25 metres out. This stretched King’s out to a bonus point lead for four tries to 27-7. Tamaki were rewarded with a a try after a sustained period on attack but it was Fa’asui Fuatai who scored the final try after some slick King’s inter-passing. Simon Hickey converted for a final score of 36-12.

This places King’s now in 2nd place with two difficult games against St Peter’s and St Kentigern to come next term.
Over the Holiday break the team play Palmerston North Boys High before facing their concluding two competition round games.

2nd XV had a bye

The Colts suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Tamaki College 2nd XV on Saturday when they lost 32-10 with the points for King’s coming from a try to Tim Maskell and a conversion and penalty to Brad Davis.

The Under-15 team faced De La Salle College in a top-of-the-table clash and although scrambling for most of the game with strong defence the size and power of the De La Salle team eventually won through resulting in a 15-10 victory to De La Salle.

4A played St Peters College at home and won 22-7 in what was easily the teams best game of the season with great forward and back combinations leading to three great tries scored by Jamie Lawrence, Matt Lewis and Sam Tietjens with Luke Williamson kicking 2 conversions and a penalty.

4B played Western Springs at Western Springs and notched up their first victory after trailing 7-0 at the end of the first half. However, our boys fought back to be 7-7 with 10 minutes left in the game thanks to a James Parker try that Sam Ash converted. The King’s team now with their tails up dominated possession and territory and it wasn’t until the last play of the game that Chris Cunningham crossed the line and scored and Sam Ash for a 14-12 victory.

5A
took on Macleans College over at Macleans and lost the match 18-8.

6A
continued their fine run of form against Botany Downs College and ran in a huge 70-7 score line with flying winger Rubert Schoeller running in 3 tries, William McGuire two, and one each to Tom Murray, Tom Donnelly,Tom Wallis, Jonah Refiti, Chris Deery, Jack Merton and Rhys Panama with Tom Donnelly kicking 5 conversions.

7A beat St Kentigern College 31-14 with highlights being Jack Laity tackled all day and Nick Worthington scoring his 20th try of the season. 


7B lost 29-0 to Botany Downs College.

Squash

This term the junior squash team have played 8 matches and have won all matches all be it this year the team is in the B competition

Tucker Shield

The Girls House Football match this year was won by Middlemore House, 2-0.
