Boys' Trophy Retained at Head of Harbour

On Saturday, 13 February the King's rowers travelled to Lake Pupuke for the annual Head of Harbour Regatta.

We had won the Overall Points trophy at this Regatta for the past three years, as well as the Boys' trophy three out of the past four years.

The rowers produced a number of outstanding performances, enabling us to attain 120 points, and so were able to retain the Boys' trophy by an extremely comfortable margin. Sadly, we relinquished the Overall Points trophy to Glendowie College, whose girls notched up an impressive 96 points, which when added to their boys' points tally, produced an aggregate that relegated us to second place.

The last two events on the programme were the Under-18 Eights (Boys and Girls). Despite not having an official Boys' Under-18 Eight, we fielded a crew comprising six Under-16s (including the coxswain), two Under-17s and our sole Under-18 and Captain of Boats, Oliver Maclean. The crew surprised many on the shores of the lake by gaining a very creditable fifth place.

Our next major Regatta will be the Mighty River Power Junior Regatta, held at Lake Karapiro on the weekend of Saturday, 5 and Sunday, 6 March.
